Austin Mitchel-Hewitt
Austin is the Artistic director of Altered Scale Theatre which he founded in 2014.
He has 20 years of performing experience both on stage, as a street theatre perfromer and with puppetry as an artform.
He has performed with companies like Royal de Luxe (France) Tall Stories, and designed puppets and performed with Fuse theatre, Unity Theatre, Walk The Plank, Artemis Productions and National Museums Liverpool . His shows include “I’m Happy Here (Honest)” a solo performance project where he collaborated with a team of artists working as producer & performer. He is an associate artist for Action Transport Theatre and Artemis productions, collabrating with both companies regularly.
Altered Scale Theatre is proud to work closely with Petite Ullaloom, a childrens theatre company that produces quirky storyteling productions and events. Their current Collaboration is When Another Dragon Roars.
Austin also works as an education advisor and workshop practitioner, offering a wide range of workshops covering Acting, Street theatre performance, Puppetry, Physcal Theatre, Clowning, Puppet design.
He has recently undertaken a period of Arts Council England funded development having been awarded a grant from their Develop Your Creative Practice fund- his practice is focussed on carving puppets out of wood and writing of new works.
